Everton’s £100k-p/w Star Unlikely To Play For Club Again

Everton midfielder Dele Alli is ‘unlikely’ to ever play for the Premier League club again, according to reliable journalist Paul Brown.

Where is Dele Alli?

The Toffees midfielder is currently out on a season-long loan at Besiktas having previously fallen out of favour on Merseyside, but his spell over in Turkey isn’t going as well as hoped, having scored just three goals since his arrival.

Sean Dyche hasn’t yet had the chance to see whether he believes the 26-year-old is capable of forcing his way into his first-team plans upon his return, but he’s never been a player that has appeared to maintain a strong relationship with his managers.

MK Dons’ former boss Karl Robinson has recently admitted that he once pinned the player up against a wall out of frustration over his negative attitude in the dressing room, and with a no-nonsense man like the Blues coach now in charge, it feels unlikely they'd be the best of friends, especially considering the worrying position the club find themselves in.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown insisted that Alli won’t be seen putting on the Everton shirt again because extending his stay would have a huge financial impact on the board. He said:

"I don't honestly think that Dele Alli's a huge problem for Everton. The problem for them is when he comes back and what they do with him then. The deal with Spurs was a very good deal for Everton. The problem is that he's only a few games away from triggering another big chunk of the transfer fee, so I think it's incredibly unlikely we ever actually see Dele Alli play for Everton again. I think he's made his last appearance."

Is Alli's career here finished?

Alli was once dubbed a “leader” during his time at Tottenham Hotspur by journalist Josh Bunting, but he certainly didn't make that sort of impact at Goodison Park. In fact, looking at his numbers from his time at Everton before jetting off on his loan, the hierarchy should definitely put him up for sale.

The Adidas-sponsored talent has only ever played 13 games for the Toffees with just one of those being a start, not to mention that he failed to register any goals or assists during that time (WhoScored).

The Milton Keynes-born ace is also earning £100k-p/w so it’s important that he’s removed from the wage bill to help free up money to invest in potential new signings later in the summer, with the upcoming window the last chance to cash in with his contract set to expire in 2024.

Man City On "Red Alert" Over Ansu Fati’s Availability

Manchester City are on "red alert" over Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati's availability at the end of the season, according to a new report.

Could Fati seal Barcelona exit?

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the 20-year-old's future at Camp Nou recently, with a number of clubs linked with a move for him. The Spaniard has not always managed to make himself a key part of Xavi's plans at Barca this season, making 25 appearances in La Liga but only actually starting 10 of those matches.

For that reason, Fati could possibly look for a fresh challenge once the summer transfer window arrives, although with his current deal not expiring until 2027, it could take a huge bid for Barca to allow him to leave, given his long-term potential.

A move to City has been mooted recently, as Pep Guardiola looks to conduct some important summer transfer business, and now another update has emerged regarding the situation.

Could City seal move for youngster?

According to Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider, "it is understood that City have been put on red alert" over the availability of Fati. While the attacker would "prefer to stay at the Catalan club if he is given guarantees over game time", he is also "intrigued by a Premier League move." Manchester United and Chelsea are also mentioned in the report, with City's Premier League rivals both "monitoring" the current situation.

Fati is someone who could light up the Etihad and be a sensational signing by the club this summer, having been hailed as someone "born with that talent and that magic" by Barca teammate Eric Garcia. Despite his tender years, he already has 26 goals and nine assists to his name for Barca, while at international level, he has netted twice for Spain.

The fact that Fati can operate both on the left-hand side and in a central attacking position could also appeal to Guardiola, with that versatility something that he often admires in his players, allowing more fluency in his attack. The Spain ace could come in and provide strong competition for the likes of Jack Grealish and Phil Foden, but also be considered a long-term acquisition who could rebuild his ever-so-slightly stuttering career, working under one of the greatest managers of his generation in the process.

Granted, Fati would cost a huge sum of money, with the player having a €1billion (£879m) release clause in his contract, but his talent is undeniable and a new challenge could get the very best out of him, ensuring he reaches his vast potential.

Man Utd: 49-Touch Dynamo Shone vs Sevilla

Manchester United let a two-goal advantage slip through their fingers as Sevilla fought back to claim a 2-2 draw which will ensured the Andalusians headed back to Spain in much a better mood than their English counterparts.

Erik ten Hag’s side looked like they were on the way to a fairly comfortable victory as Marcel Sabitzer scored twice in the opening 30 minutes and the score stayed like this until the final ten minutes. Two moments of madness cost United the victory, as Tyrell Malacia and then Harry Maguire scored own goals, meaning the Red Devils have a much tougher task next week than what was anticipated at half-time.

The Austrian midfielder certainly justified his selection as he netted United’s two goals along with making three clearances and succeeding with one dribble attempt during his time on the pitch.

It was another starter who significantly impressed for the Old Trafford side against Sevilla however, as Antony put in a wonderful attacking display that he can hopefully replicate over the next few weeks.

How did Antony perform for Manchester United against Sevilla?

The winger has endured a Jekyll and Hyde campaign so far during 2022/2023, enjoying some fabulous performances such as scoring a crucial goal in the 4-1 win over Real Betis last month, while also having a couple of shockers in the process, most notably in the 7-0 drubbing to Liverpool.

His potential appears limitless, yet in order to take his game to the next level, he will have to massively improve his consistency.

The former Ajax winger enjoyed a solid performance against the La Liga side last night and Statman Dave claimed the player enjoyed an “entertaining battle” with Sevilla left-back Marcos Acuna.

Statistically, Antony was United’s second-best performer across the starting XI with a Sofascore rating of 7.4/10 and this is the kind of performance Ten Hag will be expecting every week.

During his 81 minutes on the pitch, he took 49 touches and delivered one accurate cross, while he also succeeded with four of his six dribble attempts, suggesting he was in the mood to attack the opposition fullback.

Antony for Manchester United

The 23-year-old caused Sevilla all sorts of problems by taking four shots throughout the tie, and he also hit the woodwork, coming so close to being rewarded for his hard work. The Brazilian won half of his duels, made a tackle and interception whilst he also chipped in with two clearances, proving that he can also help out defensively and Ten Hag should be pleased with his display.

If the winger delivers another performance like this next week, then he could spearhead United’s progress into the semi-finals of the Europa League and continue their quest for continental glory.

Chelsea’s Nine-pass Liability "Struggled Badly" Vs Brighton

Another week, and another defeat for Chelsea, as Frank Lampard’s men succumbed 2-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion this afternoon and the result leaves the club struggling in 11th place, a mere 12 points off the relegation places.

The Blues opened the scoring through Conor Gallagher, who was enjoying a rare start, and it looked as though their luck might be turning. Just before half-time, however, Danny Welbeck scored the equaliser and the momentum was clearly with the away side heading into the second half.

With just over 20 minutes remaining, Julio Enciso scored what turned out to be the winner, and if Todd Boehly had expected Lampard to bring with him a new manager bounce, that experiment has failed spectacularly.

Ben Chilwell was one of the club's numerous poor performers, winning only four duels and being dribbled past twice as he struggled at left-back.

The Englishman managed to lose possession eight times during the game, committed two fouls and failed to provide any sort of attacking intent, failing with his only dribble attempt and delivering just one successful cross.

He wasn’t the worst player for the Blues, however, as that accolade belongs to Denis Zakaria, who failed to deliver a performance that could give the club a chance of securing all three points.

How did Denis Zakaria perform against Brighton?

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella summed up his display rather well by saying he “struggled badly today”, while his Sofascore rating of 6.1/10 certainly justifies this.

The Switzerland international was statistically Chelsea’s worst player on the pitch, and during his 74-minute spell, he managed to complete a paltry nine passes – a shocking figure for a player who was looked upon to control the midfield and dictate play.

Alongside the poor passing statistics, he managed just 19 touches throughout as he clearly struggled to get into the match, having arguably been 'rusty' after a lack of football in 2023. He also won zero duels and was dribbled past on two occasions.

Defensively, Zakaria blocked one shot and made one clearance while losing possession four times – although to lose the ball, you actually have to have possession of it in the first place, and the game simply passed him by.

Denis Zakaria for Chelsea

Lampard will need to have a tactical rethink ahead of next week's tie against Real Madrid in the Champions League, and with this performance today, there could be wholesale changes.

Zakaria hasn’t done himself any favours at all, and he may well have to resort to appearances from the bench from here on in.

Everton’s £120k-p/w Star Was Dyche’s Shining Light v Palace

Everton may well have claimed an impressive point yesterday at Crystal Palace, but results elsewhere have left them still in the mire when it comes to Premier League safety.

Travelling to Roy Hodgson's resurgent side, who had won their last three in comfortable fashion, it was expected they would do so again when welcoming the struggling Toffees. Sean Dyche's men, conversely, had not won in their last four.

However, in a performance that the former Burnley boss would have been proud of, his side were resolute as they ground out a 0-0 draw. Despite that, they fell into the relegation zone following Leicester City's win.

Following the clash in which defences triumphed, James Tarkowski took to the media to demand more from his attackers. He noted: "To grind it out with ten men is nice but there's way more from us. We defended well, we had conceded a few goals recently so that's a plus but we need to do more and expect more from our forward players. We have some really talented boys but we need more from them.

alex-iwobi-everton-crystal-palace

"It has been a tough season and maybe we are losing that confidence. The players we have got are super super talented boys."

His rally cry might apply to the likes of Dwight McNeil and Demarai Gray, who were quiet yesterday, but Alex Iwobi was the sole offensive shining light in Royal Blue.

How did Alex Iwobi play vs Crystal Palace?

Despite only being handed a Sofascore rating of 6.7 for the match, of which seven of his teammates bettered, it perhaps does not account for the consistent creative presence he offered alongside his ever-selfless work rate.

The 26-year-old started almost as a second striker, but with just 43% of the ball, he had to be economical when in possession. Whilst only recording 46 touches, the Nigeria international was exactly that.

Iwobi maintained an 80% pass accuracy which included a whopping four key passes. In a moment of first-half brilliance too, the former Arsenal winger nearly proved to be the difference, as he thundered a right-footed volley towards goal which Sam Johnstone had to be alert for. At full stretch, he palmed it wide, but it marked one of the visitors' few fine efforts on goal.

For comparison, McNeil and Gray mustered just one key pass and two shots on target combined, via Sofascore.

Journalist Joe Thomas also took to Twitter to highlight the attacking impetus that the £120k-per-week trickster was providing, writing: "Iwobi bursting forward at every opportunity."

Whilst Tarkowski certainly has a point, given Everton are the lowest scorers in the whole division, Iwobi should be exempt from such criticism temporarily after his display yesterday. He was Dyche's shining light.

Everton Must Bin Exceptional £120k-p/w Star v Newcastle

Everton will host Newcastle United in their Premier League clash at Goodison Park tonight and Sean Dyche will be hoping the home advantage gives his team a much-needed boost.

The Toffees have found themselves in a precarious position in the league table, currently two points deep in the relegation zone, so taking a win from their meeting with Eddie Howe’s incredibly in-form side will be absolutely vital in their challenge for survival.

Indeed, Dyche has had to deal with several injuries and suspensions to players since his arrival on Merseyside in late January with Seamus Coleman, Amadou Onana and Dominic Calvert-Lewin just some of the key players who have missed out.

Not only that, Mason Holgate found himself in hot water on his return to action last weekend, picking up a suspension for a second yellow card, whilst Abdoulaye Doucoure has been sidelined for the last three.

Having said that, Doucoure’s return to action could not have come at a better time for Dyche as the midfielder was in great form ahead of his suspension and it would come as no surprise if he doesn’t make an instant appearance in the starting XI tonight.

As a result, due to Newcastle’s tenacity in attack, it may be time for Alex Iwobi to lose his spot to accommodate the combative Doucoure’s return.

Will Iwobi be dropped vs Newcastle?

The Everton boss will be well aware that Newcastle have been unstoppable in front of goal with a 6-1 victory chalked up against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, so finding ways to hold off their overwhelming press will be essential.

A more defensive approach would be wise for the Everton boss, especially in the centre of the pitch where many of the battles will be contested, so it makes sense for Iwobi to come out of the position for a more all-around performer like Doucoure.

The £120k-per-week ace – who has been dubbed “exceptional” by Frank Leboeuf – has revived his career on the blue side of Merseyside over the last 12 months and has played a key role in attacking play, registering as many as eight assists this term.

Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi.

However, when it does come to winning important battles and physicality in midfield, Iwobi has not been the best performer.

Over 32 league appearances, despite shining in his attacking attributes, the 26-year-old has lost 73% of his aerial duels and 52% of his ground duels, as well as only averaging 0.6 interceptions and losing possession 14.5 times per game.

With that being said, it would make sense for Dyche to deploy a physical presence in Doucoure instead, to ensure the Toffees are defensively sound.
