The ICC has formally opened an application process on Wednesday for a new USA coach, who will officially start duty at WCL Division Four in Los Angeles later this year.A minimum level 2 coaching accreditation is among the qualifications listed for the role. The role came under scrutiny following USA’s performance at the World T20 Qualifier last year when opener Akeem Dodson criticised coach Charlie Javed for lacking a Level 1 certificate and the team’s inability to qualify for the World T20 in India.Prior to Javed, USA had been coached on a contract basis by Robin Singh although his tenure produced fractious moments with players. Most notable was the dispute between Singh and players Orlando Baker and Timroy Allen, who vowed never to play for USA again. Allen has not played for USA since he was vice-captain at the 2013 World T20 Qualifier, but has since participated in ICC-conducted trials in USA. He went on to play for a combined ICC Americas squad in January and performed well enough to earn a Caribbean Premier League contract with Jamaica Tallawahs.Among those believed to have expressed interest in the role are Mike Young and Doug Watson. Young has built his reputation as one of the world’s premier fielding coaches, having been part of the coaching staff of three World Cup winning squads with Australia, and was also on the coaching staff of IPL champions Deccan Chargers in 2009. Young was part of the coaching team for the ICC Americas squad in January and has been heavily involved in the talent evaluation process at ICC Combines conducted around USA in 2015 and 2016.Watson is a former South African first-class player who served as assistant coach for Mumbai Indians in 2009. He most recently served as head coach of Namibia from 2012 to 2015.The ICC stated in a press release that applications will be accepted till July 20. A 30-man shortlist of players chosen from the recent ICC Combines is due to arrive in Florida on July 27 for a week-long USA national team camp, of which a 14-man squad is expected to be chosen for WCL Division Four.

Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi was recently honoured with the PFA Scotland Men's Player of the Year award after another stunning campaign in the Scottish Premiership under Ange Postecoglou.

The Hoops plundered 25 goals and two assists in 30 starts in the top-flight with that coming after the attacker struck 12 times in 16 starts in the previous season.

The Japanese talent has proven himself to be a prolific scorer in Scotland and is a player who the manager can rely on at the top end of the pitch over the course of a campaign.

However, having variety in a squad can be important as it provides the opposition with different threats and allows the team to switch up their tactics and style if needed in games where a change is required.

The Hoops were recently linked with a possible swoop for centre-forward Eduvie Ikoba from Hungarian outfit Zalaegerszeg and he could be a dream alternative to Kyogo in the number nine position.

Who is Eduvie Ikoba?

The 25-year-old is an American striker who has been in fine form in front of goal this season since his move to Hungary from AS Trencin last summer.

He is a 6 foot 3 attacker, who Yanks Abroad hailed as "prolific", his physical presence could offer Celtic a different dynamic at the top end of the pitch.

Kyogo stands at 5 foot 7 and offers almost no aerial quality to the Hoops. The Japan international lost 87% of his contests in the air in 2022/23 and won 0.1 per game in the Premiership, which shows that the 28-year-old gets bullied in aerial duels.

Ikoba, meanwhile, could provide more of an outlet for his teammates when they play longer. His height could allow him to win flick-ons or hold the ball up to bring others into play, rather than Kyogo being dominated and potentially losing the ball to the opposition from longer passes.

Therefore, the American marksman could be a useful alternative to the Japanese star, particularly in European matches when Celtic are not expected to dominate the ball and may need more of a physical presence to retain possession.

The Zalaegerszeg ace, who writer Caleb Turner dubbed "fascinating", has also scored 11 goals in 21 league starts this season, suggesting that the potential is there for him to also be a reliable goalscorer, although it remains to be seen whether he can translate that form over to Scotland.

As an alternative option to Kyogo, who may only come off the bench and start the occasional game, this could be a worthwhile gamble for Postecoglou to make this summer.

For someone who was enlisted to desperately secure safety with four games to go, the experienced manager could not live up to his impressive relegation-avoiding reputation, with his pragmatism backfiring on numerous occasions.

At the start of yesterday's final day, the Whites knew that nothing less than a three-goal win would be enough to potentially avoid the drop. However, the 68-year-old still opted to start conservatively.

His team for the clash consisted of two right-backs and four central defenders, opting to leave more offensive talents like Wilfried Gnonto and Georginio Rutter on the bench. Whilst fans will forever question this move, few would argue that Brenden Aaronson, another such option, had merited a place in the squad, let alone the starting XI.

His cameo against Spurs only served to support this and emphasise the need for him to be ditched in the summer.

However, having also been dribbled past twice and lost 100% of the five duels he competed in, these suspicions were denied in depressing fashion.

He has truly been a woeful signing, and arguably a microcosm of the manager who initially propelled them into the mess that neither Javi Gracia nor Allardyce could pull them out of.

Whether it be through shocking transfers or questionable tactics, Marsch should forever be tainted with the mantle of having relegated this historic club. Aaronson's performances certainly did not aid in avoiding such an eventuality, with yesterday surely marking his final game in a Leeds shirt.

Newcastle United have joined the long line of suitors for Barcelona centre-back Jules Kounde, with the France international allegedly unhappy at Camp Nou despite winning LaLiga this season.

What's the latest on Jules Kounde to Newcastle?

According to Spanish outlet AS (via Chronicle Live), Magpies manager Eddie Howe is an admirer of the dynamic defender and could look to commence a transfer bid in the coming weeks, with Barcelona asking for at least €75m (£65m) for his signature.

With reports that Kounde is disgruntled in Catalonia and seeks clarity over his future role under Xavi's tutelage after spending the majority of the campaign at right-back, Newcastle could take advantage and entice the 24-year-old into a switch to the Premier League.

Chelsea looked poised to complete a deal for the defender last summer before he completed a £50m move to La Blaugrana, but now Newcastle could prise him away after offering a central role in the club's ambitious sporting project.

How good is Jules Kounde?

The 5 foot 11 machine is a burgeoning force in European football and is a defender with genuine "world-class potential" – as lauded by talent scout Jacek Kulig – having played 38 matches across all competitions since joining Barca from Sevilla, scoring once and providing six assists.

The 19-cap Frenchman has clinched the LaLiga title to complement his Europa League success with The Red and Whites in 2019/20, but indeed played 21 matches at full-back as opposed to 17 at his preferred central deployment and could now be seeking a route out of Barcelona after just one season.

As per FBref, he ranks among the top 1% of central defenders across Europe's top five leagues for rate of assists, the top 2% for shot-creating actions and the top 2% for progressive passes per 90, though it is important to remember that he has fluctuated between central and wide defensive positions this term.

Regardless, the £226k-per-week phenom is one of the best ball-playing defenders around and has been hailed as "sensational" by analyst Marcus Bring, with one tactical report once illustrating his agility and efficacy in contributing with crisp passing during offensive transitions.

Dubbed a "warrior" by Frank Leboeuf, the one-time Bordeaux prospect could be the perfect heir to Fabian Schar's position in Howe's Tyneside team.

Schar has been transformational for the Toon this season and has been integral in securing top four, starting 36 Premier League matches.

The 31-year-old is out of contract in one year however, and while technical director Dan Ashworth might be inclined to offer him a new deal, maintaining the ascension could warrant the arrival of a gem of Kounde's ilk.

The £40k-per-week Newcastle titan ranks among the top 6% of positional peers over the past year for rate of assists, the top 2% for shot-creating actions and the top 9% for aerials won per 90, with a knack for contributing from an attacking standpoint that Kounde could replicate, as the evidence suggests.

With Newcastle seeking clarity over their future among Europe's elite, Kounde would be a "simply awesome" addition, as also described by Kulig, and Howe must complete a swoop this summer.

The hosts ultimately managed to cobble together 176 for 9, helped considerably by the 41 runs in wides offered up by Australia’s bowlers. وأردف: “كان يجب استمرار مشروع روي فيتوريا مع منتخب مصر، لأنك غذا قمت بتغيير المدير الفني كل فترة، فلن تنجح”.

وأشار: “جوزيه جوميز المدير الفني الحالي لنادي الزمالك، كان مدربي في بنفيكا، كان مدرب مساعد في هذا الوقت، أعرفه جيدًا هو طموح جدًا، يعمل منذ فترة طويلة خارج البرتغالي وعاد مرات عديدة، وأعتقد إن خبراته تجعله يعرف الكثير عن كرة القدم”.

واختتم: “جوميز لديه تحد كبير لأن الأبيض ناد كبير في مصر، يجب أن يكون صبورًا ويجب أن تكون الإدارة صبورة معه لأنه أتى بنظريات جديدة، ويجب عليه أن يعرف اللاعبين جيدًا، والمباراة الأولى التي خاضها كانت جيدة لكن مازال أمامه مباريات كثيرة هامة، أعتقد أن طموح المدرب شيء هام وأنا أعتقد أنه سينجح مع الزمالك”.
