Worcestershire have completed the restructure of their coaching team with the appointment of Alex Gidman as 2nd XI coach.Gidman, who spent the bulk of his career at Gloucestershire, joined Worcestershire for the last year of his playing career in 2015 and, as well as developing his coaching skills, has subsequently studied psychology and neuro-linguistic programming. Combined with his experience of leadership – he captained Gloucestershire for four years – and his abilities as an allrounder good enough to score more than 11,000 first-class runs and represent England Lions, he offers a strong package of skills and knowledge.Worcestershire’s coaching set-up has changed radically since they gained promotion in September. Steve Rhodes, the long-serving director of cricket, was sacked after concealing the arrest of young player Alex Hepburn from the club management, before his assistant, Matt Mason, decided upon a fresh start at Leicestershire. Kevin Sharp was promoted from his role as 2nd XI coach to the head coach role and Alan Richardson, something of a Worcestershire legend after an outstanding spell as a seamer with the team, re-joined the club as bowling coach.Worcestershire also have a new chief executive after Tom Scott stepped down and was replaced by former player Matt Rawnsley.”I’m delighted for us and for Alex,” Sharp said. “He quite clearly wants to get back into the game as a coach. He made that very clear in his interview.”He is a wise man, he is a smart man, he has got captaincy experience, he is an outside-of-the-box thinker, he sometimes thinks of things others wouldn’t think if and I’ve always enjoyed that in Alex.”He will complement our coaching team and bring a dynamic to it, a way of thinking, that will challenge us. That is just brilliant. The lads will be delighted with his appointment. It will motivate the group enormously.”Gidman was appointed as captain of the England Lions side for their 2003-04 tour of India and Malaysia but was forced to withdraw through injury. He was also named in England’s preliminary squad for the 2004 Champions Trophy. He worked as a coach with the MCC Young Cricketers last summer, having been forced to retire at the end of 2015 due to a finger injury.”I’m very happy and really excited and looking forward to starting with the group and hopefully assisting them in achieving their team and personal goals,” Gidman said. “Getting back into the professional game was always something I’d have liked to have done. Opportunities don’t come around very often and I didn’t want to rely on that happening and I’ve put in a lot of work and learnt a lot in order to try and make myself a better coach.”I’ve learn a lot away from cricket, which I think has been very helpful and developed me as a person and a coach. So once this opportunity came up, I gave it a go and felt I was in a good position to offer something to the group and I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity.”I built some good relationships with the players when I was playing but that was a long time ago now. A lot has changed. I’ve changed as a person and this is a completely different role. However, it’s nice to have an understanding of some of the players’ characters and technical work. It’s a really exciting opportunity.”Worcestershire vice-chairman Tim Curtis, who has headed up the team making new appointments at the club since the departure of Rhodes, said: “It is a really outstanding appointment with real potential to add quality to the whole coaching set-up. He is a person with a hunger for learning and understanding as much about what makes people be successful and thrive under pressure.”He is delighted to be back at Worcestershire. Obviously his spell here and his career was cut short through injury but he is relishing working at the club in a different capacity.”

A Baixada é fogo! Melhores amigos, Caio Alexandre e Kanu viram protagonistas do Botafogo

MatériaMais Notícias

“Kanu! Kanu!

Ele me dava conselhos.

Desde a base eu gritava no ouvido dele (Caio). Ele sempre atentou, escutou.

Nossas famílias saem juntas, eu frequento a casa dele, ele frequenta a minha casa.

Caio e Kanu carregam Caxias no coração.

No meu tempo livre sempre estou lá.

Man Utd eye move for "elite" £83m striker who may join instead of Gyokeres

Manchester United are now eyeing a move for an “elite” striker who has an £83m release clause, with recruitment chiefs identifying alternative targets to Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen, according to a report.

United's search for a striker

With Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee flattering to deceive this season, Man United have set their sights on signing a new striker this summer, and several highly-rated options have been linked with moves to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have now made contact to offer Osimhen a big salary, with the Nigerian forward poised to leave Napoli in the summer, while they have also been chasing Gyokeres, who Ruben Amorim knows very well from their time together at Sporting CP.

Reports from Spain have suggested United have already struck an agreement to sign Gyokeres in the summer, although with no other sources corroborating the news, it is probably wise to be very skeptical about such a deal.

Man Utd progressing in talks to sign £33m ace who wants Old Trafford move

The summer transfer window is still a few months away from opening but United are looking to wrap up a deal fairly quickly.

According to a report from GiveMeSport, Man United are now identifying alternative targets to the Sporting star, and they are contemplating a move for FC Porto’s Samu Omorodion, who has also impressed in the Liga Portugal this season.

Amid fears they could miss out on their top targets, perhaps owing to their very poor league position, United have picked out Omorodion as an alternative option, with scouts watching him in action earlier this month.

The Porto star nearly completed a £34.4m move to Chelsea last month, but the Blues were unable to strike an agreement on personal terms, opening the door for a potential move to Old Trafford in the summer.

However, INEOS are at risk of having to shell out a considerably higher fee, as the 20-year-old has a release clause of over £83m.

Omorodion impressing in debut Liga Portugal season

While Gyokeres has been getting the majority of the headlines, the Spaniard has also been on the scoresheet regularly in the Liga Portugal this season, with 13 goals and three assists to his name in 18 outings.

Freelance scout Ben Mattinson believes a big move could be on the cards for the youngster soon, in light of his impressive performances this season, branding parts of his game as “elite”.

Gyokeres has proven himself over a more sustained period, while the Sweden international also has six goals in eight Champions League games this season.

However, given United’s current league position, they may find it difficult to compete for the Sporting forward this summer, and Omorodion’s goal record suggests he could be a suitable alternative option.

Mark Waugh to give up Australian selection job

The former Australian batsman will no longer continue as a selector after his contract ends in August because of his increasing involvement in TV commentary

Australian cricket will soon rid itself of a major conflict of interest after Mark Waugh chose to step down as a national selector in order to commentate full-time for the pay-TV provider Fox Sports.Officially Waugh is still slated to be the selector on duty when the limited-overs team travels to England in June for a series also to be broadcast on Fox, but he will have moved on by the time the next home summer begins.Waugh, who has been a selector since May 2014, will be part of Cricket Australia’s new host broadcaster, with Fox Sports (part-owned by News Corporation) having paid the lion’s share of the A$1 billion television-rights fee sought. In return for the cash, CA has hidden two of three international formats – ODIs and Twenty20s – behind a paywall for the first time in Australian history. For the past year, Waugh has been officially designated CA’s T20 selector in addition to being on the panel to choose teams across all formats, despite concurrently commentating for the Ten Network on its successful coverage of the Big Bash League (BBL). Ten’s loss of the rights to the BBL, alongside Nine’s forfeiture of the rights to international cricket for the first time in 40 years, has led to a feeding frenzy for commentary positions at Fox and also Seven, which will show Test matches and some BBL games on free-to-air television as part of a sub-licensing deal.Alongside the CA board director Mark Taylor while he was also commentating for Nine, Waugh’s has been the most obvious conflict on Australian television screens over the past four seasons, making for numerous awkward moments – not that Ten minded the recurring source of conversation starters. Shaun Graf, Cricket Victoria’s operations manager, said what many were thinking after Waugh offered a thinly veiled criticism of Glenn Maxwell on one broadcast by saying of D’Arcy Short: “Haven’t seen him play a reverse sweep, have we in six games? I think some of the other batsmen around the country, take note.””I know he puts himself into a little bit of a conflict of interest by being a commentator as well, [but] I don’t think that’s the forum to discuss anything like that,” Graf told SEN Radio last summer. “Maybe ‘Junior’ should concentrate on his special comments but not maybe talk as much in relation to the selection side of things.”The Olympic hockey player and respected coach Ric Charlesworth, a state cricketer for western Australia in the 1970s and ’80s, raised the issue of Waugh’s conflict in a 2016 book. Charlesworth is a mentor to the new Australian coach Justin Langer. “Another boundary that seems to have been crossed in cricket is that of selection,” Charlesworth wrote in .”One of the Australian selectors, Mark Waugh, appears on television as an expert commentator and gives opinions on form and performance… this appears an extraordinary conflict of interest. Many of the traditional boundaries are being crossed and there is increasing pressure for coaches and players to ‘come out’ of the game during the contest and sponsors, broadcasters and producers drive this behaviour.”Given to following his instincts rather than relying overly on numbers, Waugh made a mark upon the final squad-selection he has been involved in, choosing Nic Maddinson for the T20 leg of the England tour even though the former state captain had been left out of the New South Wales contract list for next season.Waugh’s signature with Fox Sports joins those of Isa Guha, Mel Jones, Adam Gilchrist, Michael Hussey and Michael Vaughan. Seven, meanwhile, have signed Ricky Ponting. Nine’s long-time commentator Bill Lawry has declined approaches from the two networks.

Celtic news: Pundit urges Rodgers to replace player who’s "not good enough"

Celtic are four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership summit, but former Hoops star Frank McAvennie has urged Brendan Rodgers to replace one member of his squad in the January transfer window.

What's the latest news involving Celtic?

Last weekend, Celtic were embroiled in a dramatic 2-1 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park in the Scottish Premiership, as Denmark Under-21 international Matt O'Riley sealed all three points with an impressive finish in the 97th minute, despite the Hoops seemingly being destined to drop points just moments earlier in the clash as Blair Spittal cancelled out an opener from Luis Palma.

Nevertheless, Celtic emerged victorious to maintain their unbeaten start to life in the Scottish top-flight under Rodgers, who was delighted with his side's never-say-die attitude away to a difficult opponent.

He stated via BBC Sport: "A fantastic victory for the players. I said to them after the game that this club's history is built on going to the end and scoring late goals. I thought we were the dominant team. Motherwell did well in terms of organisation and we just needed to show a wee bit more quality around the box. We didn't panic, we just waited for that moment, and Matt continues doing what he's been doing. A really good day for us. It's fantastic for the supporters – they were patient and kept driving us forward in the second half."

Next up for Celtic is a powderkeg clash in the Champions League at home to Lazio as they search for their first points in Group E, and Rodgers has confirmed in his pre-match press conference that United States international Cameron Carter-Vickers could be in contention for a return from his latest injury lay-off.

Rodgers is under no illusions that the visit of Lazio will be a stiff test for his side, stating via Sky Sports: "We know that at this level we have to be 100 per cent. At 98 per cent at this level, you'll come unstuck."

What has Frank McAvennie said?

In conversation with Football Insider, former Celtic player McAvennie has indicated that his old side should look to part ways with goalkeeper Scott Bain in January, as he believes the Scotland international is "not good enough" to displace Joe Hart at Parkhead.

When asked whether Celtic should replace Bain in January, the pundit stated: "I think he (Rodgers) has got to do something because it is not good enough. If we go into Europe with Bain in goals it is not good enough. No disrespect to the keeper but he is not in Joe Hart’s class when it comes to saving things, his decision-making is not the best. He is a good keeper but he is not a number one for me. I would love for him to prove me wrong."

Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain.

Bain has been at Celtic since 2018 and has racked up 77 appearances across all competitions for the Hoops, keeping 39 clean sheets in the process, as per Transfermarkt.

Being Scottish, he also contributes to Celtic's homegrown quota for European competitions, meaning he is unlikely to leave the Glasgow giants any time soon in all likelihood.
