Spinners put Sri Lanka in sight of 2-0 series win

South Africa crumbled around Theunis de Bruyn in pursuit of 490

South Africa dragged the second Test into a fourth day with their best batting performance of the series against a sloppy and frustrated Sri Lankan attack. The hosts squandered four clear chances and had three unsuccessful reviews (all on umpire’s call which allowed Sri Lanka to retain their reviews) which could have seen them well into South Africa’s lower order. Instead, they gave the home crowd reason to return on Monday, when Sri Lanka will go in search of the remaining five wickets.Theunis de Bruyn gave the best account of himself as a international cricketer in his short career and remained unbeaten on 45. He also featured in South Africa’s highest partnership in the match, 57 runs for the second wicket with Dean Elgar, who made his top score of the series – a dogged 37.Elgar’s innings was incident-filled and he was let off three times, with Dilruwan Perera tainting his 36th birthday by being the culprit on each occasion. First, Dilruwan dropped a catch when Elgar top-edged a sweep off Rangana Herath in the third over. Dilruwan, running from square leg, settled under the ball but could not hold on to it. Then, Dilruwan overstepped after bowling Elgar on 6. Elgar had swept against the slider and missed. Dilruwan didn’t get his front foot back and bowled two more no-balls, one in the third session which had Elgar caught behind on 23. Elgar had left the field but was called back and added 14 runs to his score before Dilruwan finally had him out lbw, going back to the arm ball.In between, Mathews dropped Markram at slip, off Rangana Herath. Herath only had to wait until his next over to trap Markram lbw. The opener missed an attempted sweep and gave Sri Lanka their first inroad. But Sri Lanka and Dilruwan had more to rue when two reviews didn’t go their way, which could have dismissed de Bruyn before he settled. Though de Bruyn swept confidently from the start of his innings, his defences looked suspect. Dilruwan beat his outside edge and reviewed for lbw off two consecutive deliveries. Both times the deliveries pitched in line and struck de Bruyn on the back foot with the impact in line with the stumps but both times Umpire Rod Tucker’s on-field decision was not out. Both times ball-tracking showed umpires call on off stump, giving de Bruyn second and third chances to make a name for himself. And he took them. He is only five runs away from his first Test fifty and he has showed the kind of patience his seniors have lacked.Hashim Amla’s lean year showed no signs of stopping. Sri Lanka reviewed an lbw appeal against him when Akila caught him on the pad as he looked to sweep but the batsman had shuffled across enough to get outside the line. He was on 4 at the time, and added only two runs before being bowled by Herath. Faf du Plessis became the only South African batsman to cross 100 runs in the series when he added seven runs to the 98 he had scored in his three previous innings. His innings, however, ended when was caught at slip off an Akila wrong’un.With his next ball, Akila had nightwatchman Keshav Maharaj out lbw, also with a googly, but he could not complete the hat-trick. Temba Bavuma was unintimidated by a close-in field and a topspinner and went on to produce a sprightly knock that he will want to build on. That’s all South Africa’s middle and lower order can aim for, in the face of a mammoth target.Earlier, Sri Lanka batted until an hour into the lunch session and declared with a lead of 489 runs. Dimuth Karunaratne took his personal tally in the two-Test series to 356 runs and fell 15 runs short of a second century. After hours of concentration, he chased a Lungi Ngidi length ball and edged it to Quinton de Kock. He shared a 63-run stand with Angelo Mathews, who returned to form with his first score over fifty since December 2017. Mathews also put on 64 with Roshen Silva to frustrate a wearing South African attack.By the time the second new ball was due, South Africa were using Maharaj on one end and rotating part-timers at the other to spare the frontline quicks from the drudgery. Kagiso Rabada and Ngidi bowled eight and nine overs respectively, while Dale Steyn carried the heaviest workload, with 11 overs. Steyn went wicketless, though, which means he will have to wait until the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan at home to overtake Shaun Pollock as South Africa’s leading wicket-taker. Steyn drew level with Pollock on 421 wickets in this match. But the bowling honours belonged to Maharaj, who sent down 81.1 overs in three days and finished with 12 for 283. Sri Lanka’s batsmen, Mathews in particular, took Maharaj on, often with success but eventually gave South Africa’s sole specialist spinner some reward.Mathews eventually chased a length ball that carried to du Plessis at knee height. Sri Lanka faced 11 more balls before calling time on their innings, giving themselves the runs and the time to bowl South Africa and claim a series win.

Manish Pandey extends unbeaten run to lead India B to title

His unbeaten 73, one of three half-centuries in a breezy chase, swelled his Quadrangular series tally to 306 runs in four innings without being dismissed

The Report by Shashank Kishore in Bengaluru29-Aug-2018BCCI

The Karnataka boys – Mayank Agarwal and Manish Pandey – continued to make cases for national selection by stroking half-centuries to help India B beat Australia A in the quadrangular series final in Bengaluru. For Agarwal, it was about forgetting his non-selection for the fourth and fifth Tests in England. For Pandey, it was about extending his glorious run of form after warming the bench across both short formats in England and putting himself back in the reckoning for the Asia Cup.Agarwal’s bruising 67 – to go with an unbeaten 124 earlier in the tournament – set up India B’s chase of 226. His counterattacking 76-run stand for the first wicket with Shubman Gill, after Ishan Kishan had injured his thumb and retired hurt in the seventh over, forced Australia A into the defensive. Once Agarwal fell, Pandey walloped an unbeaten 54-ball 73 to clinch victory in just 36.3 overs.Pandey added 120 for the second wicket with Gill, who made 66 not out. The India B captain finished the tournament with scores of 95*, 21*, 117* and 73*. In all, his 306 runs came at a strike rate of 99.15.Agarwal kickstarted the chase with a delightful extra-cover drive for a boundary off the first ball. But it wasn’t until he backed away and walloped a length ball from Billy Stanlake inside-out for six over the same region that his confidence soared. The shot came in the middle of an intense new-ball burst from Stanlake, who had just rapped Kishan on his thumb with a lifter. Two balls later, Australia A were celebrating again when Michael Neser threw himself to his right to pluck a one-handed catch off Gill at midwicket. However, while checking if the catch had been clean, the umpires discovered that Stanlake had overstepped. Gill, on 0 then, made use of his good fortune to punish Australia and bring up a measured half-century off 67 balls.Once he reached the landmark, Gill shifted into overdrive. His bottom-handed whip off the legspinner Mitchell Swepson and his six over long-on off Neser showed off his authority at the crease. With the foundation set and no pressure to contend with, Pandey kept himself busy, collecting his runs in typically unorthodox fashion. In his previous outing, Pandey had displayed swift footwork in trying to smother spin. On Wednesday, he brought out deft touches and stayed back in his crease. And then, once the target was within sight, he brought out the big hits.Australia, who finished the tournament with two wins in four games, had D’Arcy Short’s 72 at the top of the order among their positives. But their performance against spin will give them lots to think about leading into the two four-day matches in September. Australia A had talked up their approach to spin, and the positive influence of spin-specific camps in Brisbane and Bengaluru. However, they failed to walk the talk, losing six wickets to the spinners in the final. As a result, they conceded whatever advantage they had gained, having at one stage looked good for 250.Australia largely looked to sweep and play spin from the crease, and two of their frontline batsmen, Usman Khawaja and Alex Carey, fell to top-edges pouched by the keeper. Short and Khawaja took on Prasidh Krishna with the new ball, and hit him for five boundaries in his first two overs to force an early change. India B introduced spin in the ninth over, in the form of the offspinner Jalaj Saxena, with Australia A having raced to 48 without loss. Off Saxena’s third delivery, Khawaja survived when he stepped out to flick and sent a leading edge just out of cover’s reach. He was out next ball, though, looking to slog against the turn.In the next over, Travis Head was out to a leading edge off Navdeep Saini, with Gill running in from point to complete a superb catch. It left Australia 56 for 2 in the 10th over. Short carried on to bring up his half-century off just 43 balls, employing drop-and-run methods against Saxena instead of the sweep. He raised a half-century stand with Marnus Labuschagne before Australia A collapsed.Labuschagne failed to read a Shreyas Gopal flipper and was out lbw looking to play across the line. This wicket was offset by the arrival of Carey, whose deft touches and delicate paddles brought him a half-century. Short carried on unperturbed at the other end, even if he was at times watchful against spin. He made 30 off the 46 deliveries he faced against spin, before spooning a catch to cover off Deepak Hooda. Ashton Agar then added 44 with Carey before Australia went into freefall, slipping from 192 for 5 to 225 all out, Siddarth Kaul and Saini polishing off the tail with skiddy bouncers.

Reliable journalist shares possible Everton takeover twist he’s heard

A significant update has emerged regarding the potential takeover of Everton Football Club, with a potential twist set to happen at Goodison Park.

Everton 1-1 Brighton

The Blues have enjoyed a solid week or so in the Premier League, winning 1-0 away to West Ham last weekend, before drawing 1-1 at home to a strong Brighton side on Saturday afternoon. Granted, Ashley Young’s late own goal robbed Sean Dyche’s side of all three points at Goodison, but it was still a game that showed why a relegation battle shouldn’t be on the cards this season, as they held their own against the Seagulls, leading for the vast majority of proceedings.

Away from the on-field action, talk of a takeover at Everton continues to dominate the headlines, with 777 Partners seen as the front-runners to come in and bring an end to the Farad Moshiri era on Merseyside – something much of the fanbase wants to happen, following an up-and-down period as owner. That being said, there appear to be significant bumps in the road when it comes to them taking charge of the Blues, with doubts about 777 Partners' financial credentials from other investors one of the issues standing out.

It is a decision that the club simply have to get right, especially ahead of their exciting move to Bromley Moore Dock at the end of the season, and now an intriguing update has emerged regarding the ownership situation.

New Everton takeover update

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri.

According to an update from reliable journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon [via Goodison News], there is now a “mystery Indian group” that want to buy Everton, providing competition for 777 Partners in the process in a possible takeover twist. It is stated that the group “includes a wealthy businessman who has been after Premier League clubs in the past and is now on red alert for the blue half of Merseyside”. Contact has been made with Everton over their interest, as they look to chance their arm and leap to the front of the queue.

This certainly represents an intriguing update for Blues supporters, who will no doubt be excited by the idea of another contender emerging, especially due to the doubts surrounding 777 at the moment. At the end of the day, the most important thing is finding an owner that ticks every box for Everton, whether it's providing enough funds for transfers moving forward, continuing to build the club as a brand off the pitch, and generally keeping them in a healthy financial position and not risking putting them in danger in the future.

Should this mystery group fit the bill, those high up at Everton should clearly consider opting for them over 777, with the process involving them seemingly going on forever at the moment, rather than going smoothly. Either way, it is crucial that the takeover is completed sooner rather than later, in order to bring more stability to proceedings, not least because it will allow the focus to be on on-pitch matters first and foremost, which can only aid Dyche and his players.

Spurs could make January swoop for £20m "Rolls-Royce" who’s like Ake

Tottenham Hotspur's resurgence under Ange Postecoglou has been nothing short of emphatic, and despite defeat against Chelsea last time out, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic down the N17.

The Premier League was not a happy place for Spurs last season, who collapsed under erstwhile manager Antonio Conte and languished to an eighth-placed finish, resulting in his dismissal in March – the fourth in as many years at the club – and convinced Harry Kane to leave for pastures new.

The club's record scorer joined Bayern Munich in August in what felt like a hammer blow right at the maiden stage of Postecoglou's reign, before the framework had even been drilled in, but any trepidation was dispelled as Spurs swiftly asserted themselves in the early stages of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou.

Indeed, after drawing away to Brentford in the opener, Postecoglou claimed his first victory with a convincing 2-0 win over Manchester United, starting a four-match winning streak that was halted during an impressive draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

At present, Tottenham are perched in second place in the table, boasting 26 points from 11 matches and just one point behind imperious table-topper Manchester City, despite the recent defeat to the Blues.

Postecoglou will be delighted with the progress on the pitch but understands the importance of bolstering the squad and strengthening ahead of the dreaded business end.

It's understood that the defence will receive priority in January; this was the decision before £43m summer signing Micky van de Ven sustained a hamstring injury against the Blues, but now the requirement for backline reinforcements is only intensified.

Tottenham transfer targets – Lloyd Kelly

According to the Evening Standard, Van de Ven's injury has reignited Spurs' interest in Bournemouth star Lloyd Kelly, with the London club likely to throw the kitchen sink at sealing the deal.

However, Italian publication Tuttosport have recently revealed that Arsenal are actually leading the race for the 25-year-old at present, having taken an interest following AC Milan and Juventus' earmarking of the player.

Spurs had been pursuing Kelly last summer and had presented Bournemouth with a £20m offer, and though Kelly opted to stay, Postecoglou has not given up on his pursuit.

Kelly's contract at the Vitality Stadium is set to expire at the end of the season and there is no indication that the Englishman will renew terms, but Tottenham would be wise to bypass the competition and secure his services in January on a cut-price deal.

Lloyd Kelly's style of play

Once described as a "Rolls-Royce" of a defender by Jonathan Woodgate, Kelly has been an excellent signing on the south coast since joining from Bristol City in a £13m deal in 2019.

Having completed 124 games with Bournemouth, the £30k-per-week titan has been among the most important players at the club and played a key role in guiding the Cherries back to the Premier League following relegation and cementing a spot back in the top flight last season.

On top of his ball-playing skill, Kelly is a robust and energetic member of the backline, ranking among the top 1% of positional peers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for clearances and the top 15% for aerial wins per 90, as per FBref.

Predicted to become a "top, top player" by Eddie Howe, Kelly has the makings of a modern-day complete defender – he's comfortable in possession, elegant on the ball and staggering in his technique.

Kelly is left-footed too, which makes him the perfect player to fill in for Van de Ven in defence, while also providing cover for left-back Destiny Udogie when need be.

His time on the south coast has been vital in sculpting him into the kind of player worthy of attention from thriving outfits like Arsenal and Tottenham, but the timing feels apt for transfer, and by joining the Spurs fold he could emulate the career path of former teammate Nathan Ake somewhat, who now razes opponents with Manchester City.

How Lloyd Kelly compares to Nathan Ake

Kelly is clearly an impressive distributor of the ball, and because of this Tottenham could get their hands on the next version of Ake, who really cemented himself as an impressive Premier League player at Bournemouth.

Ake joined Manchester City from the Cherries for £41m in 2020, and while he initially struggled to establish form and fitness at the Etihad Stadium, playing just 13 times in his debut campaign, he is now an integral member of the squad and has chalked up 96 appearances, scoring nine goals and winning a wealth of silverware including three Premier League titles and the treble last year.

Hailed for his "exceptional" qualities by Pep Guardiola, Ake's transfer could be used as the blueprint to bring Kelly to London, with the startling similarities between the pair likely something that Postecoglou should take advantage of, given Ake's trajectory since leaving the Cherries.

As per FBref, the £160k-per-week star ranks among the top 16% of positional peers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals, the top 1% for pass completion, the top 6% for progressive passes, the top 4% for passes attempted and the top 9% for aerial wins per 90.

Evidently, he's a pretty decent passer, and given that he rotates in flux from central defence and out wide, Kelly could look to emulate his performances under Postecoglou's wing, who implements a similarly fluid, interchanging attacking system to Guardiola.

While Kelly might have been dissuaded from joining Tottenham in the summer – perhaps due to a lack of assurances regarding the regularity of his appearances from the outset – there is no question that Postecoglou's side now present a compelling offer.

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake.

With dynamism and passing aptitude on his side, the Bournemouth star could dazzle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, playing an important role in both central and wide defence and deepening the club's backline.

He should take inspiration from his former teammate Ake and join a Premier League club competing at the forefront of the table, emulating the Dutchman and working his way up to be an instrumental member.

Concerns over Katherine Brunt's fitness led to England squad flexibility for World T20

Premier allrounder is managing a back problem and may not be fit, says head coach Mark Robinson

Andrew Miller at Lord's04-Oct-2018England’s 15-player squad for next month’s Women’s World T20 has been selected in the knowledge that Katherine Brunt, the squad’s senior allrounder, may not be fit enough to play a full part when the tournament gets underway in the Caribbean in just over a month’s time.Brunt, Player of the Match when England last lifted the trophy against New Zealand in 2009, has been managing a back problem that she first sustained in the Women’s Big Bash League over the winter, and would be an “impossible” player to replace, according to the head coach, Mark Robinson.”We hope she’s fit but we’ve got to be ready and prepared if she’s not,” Robinson said. “She’s an impossible batter to replace because she bats five or six and opens the bowling as well, so she’s two players in one.”Now aged 33, Brunt reiterated her enduring value to England this summer, producing another Player-of-the-Match performance against New Zealand to seal the tri-series T20 final at Chelmsford, and providing vital middle-order runs at key moments of the summer, including a career-best 72 not out against South Africa in the first ODI.England WWT20 squad

Heather Knight (Berkshire, capt), Tammy Beaumont (Kent), Katherine Brunt (Yorkshire), Sophia Dunkley (Middlesex), Sophie Ecclestone (Lancashire), Tash Farrant (Kent), Kirstie Gordon (Nottinghamshire), Jenny Gunn (Warwickshire), Dani Hazell (Yorkshire), Amy Jones (Warwickshire, wk), Nat Sciver (Surrey), Linsey Smith (Sussex), Anya Shrubsole (Somerset), Lauren Winfield (Yorkshire), Danni Wyatt (Sussex)

“She had her back flare up in the Big Bash in Australia last year, and played on with it, which caused some issues,” Robinson said. “It settled down a bit in the summer then flared up again, so we don’t know at this stage obviously. But we’ve tried to get her in the squad, and it does help that we’ve got some cover to do her role as well, which had a bearing on selection.”Of the three uncapped players in England’s squad, two have been picked specifically with Brunt’s condition in mind – Sophia Dunkley, a hard-hitting middle-order batsman for Surrey Stars who can bowl the occasional spell of legspin, and Linsey Smith, a left-arm spinner who started her career as a seamer and is therefore adept at bowling at different stages of the innings.”You’ve got to be ready for two things, Anya [Shrubsole] and Katherine going down,” said Robinson. “How do you cover their spots as opening bowlers? That’s where Linsey comes in as she can bowl in all parts of the game, which not many bowlers can do. She’s different to all the other bowlers we’ve got and she can do some of the uglier parts of the game pretty well as well.”The concerns over Brunt’s fitness follow on from last week’s withdrawal of Sarah Taylor due to her ongoing anxiety condition, and her potential absence would leave Jenny Gunn as the last remaining veteran of the 2009 WWT20 squad. However, England’s captain, Heather Knight, is confident that the lessons learnt during an incredible World Cup final victory over India in 2017 will translate to the shorter format.”It’s a nice mix of players, which is what is needed to win tournaments,” Knight said. “In T20 cricket we’ve got a core of eight or nine players who have played a lot. And it feels at the moment like it’s just about adding those little bits, ways we can get better as a team. They’ve got no scars, no fear – I’ve said to them ‘keep doing what you’re doing, keep doing what’s got you here’ and enjoy it. You’ve got to go out there and show no fear.”Nevertheless, the absence of Taylor in particular is a blow. Though Robinson reiterated that her condition needed to be handled as if it was a physical ailment, he did concede that it had been a disruption to their preparation.”Look, it is a little bit [disruptive], but you have to be honest,” he said. “You don’t want to be dependent on one player. But she’s a world-class player. It’s not easy to replace. If Katherine or Tammy [Beaumont] goes down, what do you do? You don’t want to be caught short there. It makes it real. It makes you do your proper planning.”We’ve got options, and that’s what you’re trying to do. I reckon Amy Jones is the best keeper in the world after Sarah, as a pure gloveperson. I’ll argue that with anybody. So we’re covered there.””What Heather and I have tried to do is get a team for all conditions, on all wickets, all boundary sizes,” Robinson added. “You don’t want to be a one-dimensional team. People can label us what they want: favourites, not favourites. What we will be is well-planned, well-drilled, brilliantly led, and we’ll see where that gets us.”Katherine Brunt struck twice in three balls to set back New Zealand•Getty Images

In spite of their own insistence that they will not travel to the tournament as favourites, it hasn’t been lost on the England team management that the last time they were 50-over world champions, in that heady year of 2009, they cleaned up over 20 overs too.”There’s always that pressure and expectation. It’s not very often you in your career that you get a chance to win both white-ball trophies,” Knight said. “Obviously I wasn’t involved in 2009. Some of the girls were, and hearing their experiences and memories is great.”It’s a very unique opportunity we’ve got. The good thing is that we’ve got a bigger pool of players it’s making sure everyone’s pushing to make get on that plane. There’s no room for complacency. Players are battling for places.”Whatever does transpire, however, it is highly unlikely that Robinson will find himself criticising his squad for their lack of basic fitness, as was the case when they were eliminated by Australia in Delhi in the semi-finals of the last tournament back in 2016.”There were certain things you just had to draw a line under,” he said. “Athleticism is something you’re given or you’re not, you can’t really make someone into a gun athlete. But actual fitness, that’s just a prerequisite.”There’ll always be times when we’ll get it wrong as teams and individuals,” he added. “We’re all human. We’re not the perfect team, by any stretch of the imagination. But this summer we went 1-0 down [against South Africa] and we come back 2-1. We’ve shown that as long as we stay together and stay tight we’ve got a courage about us. We stay tight. It will always give you a chance.”I think a lot of what happened in the last T20 World Cup was the making of this side,” added Knight. “A lot of differences that we are as a group will hopefully be shown. We’ll have the bit between our teeth.”

Morris and Shamsi impress as South Africa extend Australia's misery

A torrential downpour on the Gold Coast dampened the mood before South Africa inflicted Australia’s third loss in four matches

The Report by Alex Malcolm17-Nov-2018A torrential downpour on the Gold Coast dampened the mood before South Africa inflicted Australia’s third loss in four matches to leave the home side down right miserable.Australia have now lost their last four T20Is and five of the last six on top of losing a one-day and Test series in between times. The rain reduced the game to a 10 overs-a-side on a surface at Metricon Stadium that was hosting international cricket for the first time.South Africa coped with the unknowns of the conditions and the pitch better than their opponents, piling on 108 in 10 overs thanks to a power-packed Powerplay from Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks.Australia’s chase drowned under the scoreboard pressure. Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi built the pressure before Chris Morris delivered the knock-out blow in the third over removing D’Arcy Short and Chris Lynn and Australia never recovered.Rain, rain go awayMetricon Stadium on the Gold Coast had set itself for its first international cricket match, just seven months after hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games. But a deluge of rain pre-game, 18 millimetres in total, nearly ensured the match never started. Fortunately, the heavy rain cell passed due to strong winds. The game did start after a delay of nearly two hours, with the playing conditions changing to 10 overs per side, two overs maximum for each bowler, with a three over Powerplay.Pace gets burntAustralia opted for an all specialist pace attack, leaving out Adam Zampa and relying on the part-time spin of Glenn Maxwell and Short. They paid a price in the three-over Powerplay. Jason Behrendorff, Billy Stanlake and Nathan Coulter-Nile were clubbed for 42 in three overs. de Kock and Hendricks feasted on the shorter lengths and inconsistent lines that were offered before Hendricks holed out from the second last ball of the Powerplay. Finch turned to spin post Powerplay and it put the brakes on. Maxwell and Short bowled the next three overs for 28 runs and it could have been far less with a bit of luck. Maxwell had de Kock stumped and should have had du Plessis stumped as well and numerous mis-hits fell safely into the gaps.Chris Morris cleaned up Chris Lynn with a superb yorker•Getty Images

Maxwell’s catchThe innings changed with du Plessis’ dismissal. With 3.1 overs left South Africa had a score of 120 on offer. Du Plessis hammered Stanlake to deep midwicket. Very few fielders in the world could have saved six let alone completed the catch. Maxwell leapt high and took the catch at full stretch above his head while momentum carried him over the rope. He threw the ball up just before his left foot hit the ground over the rope, he balanced, got back inside the rope and made the end result look exceptionally simple despite the incredible degree of difficulty. Coulter-Nile and Andrew Tye then closed the innings brilliantly conceding just 24 runs from the last 18 balls and claiming three wickets with some well-executed slower balls. The old-fashioned yorkerLynn opened the innings in the shortened chase and held the key. He was missed fourth ball of the innings at deep square when Hendricks misjudged a catch that sailed over his head and landed inside the rope. Finch was tied down by some strategic straight bowling and was clean bowled by Ngidi. Short fell first ball picking out cover off Morris. But Lynn is capable of anything. Morris, in his first match of the tour, delivered the perfect yorker. It was fast and straight, tailing in a touch, it slid under Lynn’s bat and crashed into middle. Australia slumped to 3 for 27 at the end of the Powerplay and never recovered. Morris was magnificent taking 2 for 12 from two overs with almost flawless execution throughout. Tabraiz Shamsi bowled very well claiming 1 for 12 from his two overs of left-arm wrist spin and earned the Man of the Match award. Maxwell tried in vain to chase the target down making 38 from 23 balls, which was remarkable in itself as he faced three consecutive dots from Morris while he struggled to keep his shape trying to clear the rope.
