Leeds move on youngsters in January window

The Whites remain without a new addition for Daniel Farke with just days remaining of the January transfer window. Ahead of Saturday’s Championship encounter with Cardiff City at Elland Road, Farke was quizzed on the speculation surrounding any new arrivals.

“The news is that I have to survive one more press conference”, Farke said on Leeds’ transfer plans.

“I spoke quite open with the whole situation – I’m not a big friend of the January window. Options are limited or overpriced. You always need to do something if you have injuries. If you are top of the league and have a really good season.

“To improve a team playing such a good season, bringing someone in could be risky. We will stay awake for the last hour of the window. We will do something if all boxes are ticked. This group is top of the league after 29 games. We need players who have the right quality, character and is affordable. If not, then we stick with what we’ve got.”

The club have moved on a number of fringe youngsters, though, with Joe Gelhardt joining Hull City on loan and Charlie Crew signing for Doncaster Rovers until the end of the season.

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are in talks with Scottish side Dunfermline Athletic over a move to sign defender Jeremiah Mullen.

The 20-year-old moved to Yorkshire back in 2020 from Liverpool and has been a part of Leeds’ academy set-up ever since, however, he is out of contract at the end of the season.

A deal is yet to be agreed with Dunfermline for the Scotland U21 international, who actually featured in Farke’s first pre-season as Leeds boss in a friendly with Manchester United.

He has featured on 10 occasions for Leeds in Premier League 2 this season, scoring in a 3-0 win at Tottenham back in September.

Mullen, who shares the same CAA Base agency as Tanaka, had a brief spell on loan in Scotland with Inverness, and a move to Dunfermline, currently in the Scottish Championship, could now be on the cards, making this one to watch in the final days of the window.

When it rains, it pours, which is undoubtedly true for Tottenham Hotspur this season.

The North Londoners started last week with a real chance to make the final of the League Cup and into the fifth round of the FA Cup, but fast-forward to today, and they are out of both competitions.

However, the Australian manager might not even have the chance to compete for that, as recent reports have linked the club to one of the most impressive managers on the continent, someone who’s a proven winner in a top-five league.

Up to this point, the support Postecoglou has received from the Spurs board has been quite prominent, but following the last week of dismal displays, it is starting to feel like his time in the dugout is coming to an end.

At least that is the case according to a recent report out of Italy, which has revealed that Daniel Levy is now considering sacking the Australian at the end of the season and that three names are currently being mooted as replacements.

The first two are Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva, but the most exciting name of them all is Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi.

The report claims that Fabio Paratici, who remains an outside consultant to the club, is pushing for the board to make the Italian manager their number-one target for the summer.

While it would certainly be a coup for the Lilywhites, the fact his contract expires next year means it’s not an impossibility.

For example, the Italian manager has won 127 of his 192 games in charge of Inter and has earned an average of 2.17 points per game, whereas the former Celtic boss has won just 39 of his 80 games in charge of the Lilywhites and has averaged just 1.60 points per game.

Ultimately, while he had some early success and has been undeniably unlucky with injuries, it looks like time has run out for Ange in North London, and while it might be challenging, Spurs should listen to Paratici and make Inzaghi their number-one target this summer.

A ideia era utilizar os jovens da base, tentando ao máximo espremer talentos que chegassem correspondendo ao elenco profissional, algo que não deu certo a curto prazo, mas tem mostrado o seu valor no compasso em que garotos vêm se desenvolvendo, casos dos zagueiros João Victor e Raul Gustavo, do lateral-esquerdo Lucas Piton, do atacante Adson, entre outros.

Ainda assim, se entendeu, no meio do ano passado, que o Timão precisava se reforçar. O clube, então, partiu ao mercado em busca de peças experientes, mas, acima de tudo, livres de contrato com outras agremiações.

O Corinthians não tinha receita para pagar multas rescisórias ou fazer investimentos de aquisição de atletas. A alternativa era até subir um pouco o padrão salarial, mas sem ter que aportar dinheiro para compra de ativos. E foi isso que aconteceu. Chegaram ao Corinthians sem custo algum nomes como Giuliano, Renato Augusto, Róger Guedes e Willian.

E mesmo tendo alavancado a folha salarial, a direção corintiana também conseguiu se desfazer de alguns jogadores que não estavam nos planos. Essas transações foram feitas por meio de empréstimos a outros clubes ou até mesmo através de rescisão amigável, como foi o caso do meia Camacho, que saiu para acertar com o Santos.

Houve superavit nas contas do ano passado e primeiro trimestre deste ano, a parte administrativa tem sido controlada, as dívidas reduzidas a passos mais lentos e com um serviço de consultoria em gestão que garante que o Corinthians está no caminho correto em seu procedimento de gestão, o clube alvinegro vem com uma postura diferente no mercado deste meio do ano.

Se há um ano a diretoria do Timão usava a estratégia de ir para cima de jogadores que chegariam para assumir a titularidade, mesmo sem custos, agora a tendência é que a iniciativa seja outra, mais precisa em pontos que necessitam de reforços de forma crucial.O ataque, por exemplo, é um dos setores mais importantes para que o Corinthians reforce, principalmente após a rescisão polêmica de Jô.

Outra mudança de postura está na movimentação do Timão em possíveis braços de ferro, principalmente em relação às equipes nacionais. Ainda sem loucuras, mas o Corinthians entende que pode entrar na briga com outro time caso um atleta que o interesse esteja disputado. Porém, isso só será feito pelo clube alvinegro em último caso.

No caso das saídas, os corintianos entendem que, pelo menos, mais um atleta precisa deixar o clube, para que a meta de vendas seja atingida, algo que passou muito longe no ano passado.

Neste ano, a negociação do meia Ederson ao Salernitana-ITA, e do atacante Gabriel Pereira ao New York City-EUA já renderam R$ 66 milhões ao Timão.

After back to back quiet transfer windows, Liverpool are set to be incredibly busy this summer.
